Book Talk: Jackaby by William Ritter

First and foremost, look at that book cover! It's so gorgeous and for me, the cover is one of the most important things on a book because let's face it, we judge books by their covers. This is the kind of book that will get me interested with just on simple glance at it.

I've heard a lot about this book and the reviews often say that this is like a combination of Sherlock and Doctor Who and me being a fan of those two shows, I just couldn't resist to pick this one up (figuratively because I have this on ebook form). When they first introduced Jackaby, I instantly got the Sherlock vibe from him because his attitude is much like Sherlock's. I tried looking for the Doctor Who part but I didn't find much of it. I guess that they said that because of the creatures? I'm not sure but I enjoyed the book immensely. The plot of the book is not that much different from others but the writing style is so different and the personalities of the characters are so complex that even though you've read something like it before, it will still seem like the plot has never been explored before. Jackaby is mysterious and he's one of those dorky and annoying characters that you just can't help but love. Abigail, despite being judged many times because of her gender, doesn't give up easily and can keep up with the professionals as easily as Jackaby can.

I won't discuss all of the characters to you because it will become a spoiler.

The story line is amazing and there were rarely any boring parts. The story telling is hilarious and I like how the story is not focused on romance unlike a lot of the popular books these days (no offense). William Ritter is an exceptional writer especially because he chose to write with the point of view of a girl and often when authors are interviewed, they always say that the hardest part about switching p.o.v.'s is the gender change. The plot twists are amazing. You will think that you've figured out the story but you haven't and then you will think that again but like the last time, you're going to be wrong because in my opinion, the story is set up to look predictable but do not be fooled because there are a ton of plot twists in this book. All in all, I've enjoyed the book a lot and I'm so happy that there will be a sequel.
